Ballad for Bard & Warrior in G, for SAC2
Ballad for Bard & Warrior in G, a poem (and also lyrics of a song) for SAC2. Balld for B & W tells the tale of Gabrielle's sacrifice at the end of the episode Sacrifice II. I loved XWP already, but with this episode, my obsession climbed -- no, soared! -- to new heights. A lot of poems, songs and a story (unfinished) came out of this. I also lost most of the members of my "real life" family during this period, and it was also the beginning of the end for what was then my longest lasting friendship. A time of upheaval and stress. And never a better time for me creatively. Until now.
Ballad for Bard & Warrior in G
The song that I sing,
the tale that I tell,
tell of the Love of the Warrior
and her Bard Gabrielle.
For the Greater Good
together they stood,
each expecting to die there,
hoping neither one would.
Xena raised the knife
to end Hope’s life.
She knew life was for giving,
thought she was giving her life.
With a mighty cry,
she was ready to die.
Her strong will her fate sealed,
as she made her last try.
Her beloved friend,
stood by her ‘til the end,
to do what she must do
her love to defend.
When all seemed lost,
aware of the cost,
she knew she had one chance
to save the one she loved most.
The cry, torn from her throat
as she lunged for Hope,
shattered the air there
as Xena’s Fate she re-wrote.
Xena couldn’t have been
any more shocked than when
the Love of her life
gave her life for her then.
Of her look as she fell
no words can ever tell,
as Love and Hope
both plunged into Hell.
No greater tale
could I ever tell
than of the Love for her Warrior
of the Bard Gabrielle.
