Beauty had been hers, a poem for fan fic, then SAC2, now for FIN2

Scribing by flrelight in the middle of the dark night. Beauty had been hers, a poem originally for an as yet unwritten piece of fan fiction, but it turned out to be a poem for SAC2 and later for the XWP series finale, FIN2. In Beauty as a poem for FIN2, I envision Gabrielle once again sitting by her lonely campfire, filled with grief, struggling to find her way in a world where everywhere she turns, she is reminded of the warrior who left her. She writes on a scroll, her hands shaking in the cold, with the intensity of her emotion. Her quill is growing dull from so much writing. But writing is the only way the Bard can deal with the grief that is tearing her heart apart. She tried to write of their adventures. But every time she begins, her mind drifts to the times she spent by the warrior's side, not fighting, not saving villages or worlds or defeating warlords or monsters. But the simple, quiet times, lying on their blanket by the fire, tracing patterns among the stars.

Beauty had been hers

Beauty had been hers,
had slept in her arms.
She could still hear the laughter,
still feel the warmth
of campfires, and long nights,
summer skies filled with stars...
Beauty had been hers once,
had slept in her arms.

Beauty had been hers,
had slept in her arms;
had taught her that life was for giving,
that forgiving was loving;
gave all that she had to her,
gave all this, and more, for her...
Beauty had been hers once,
had slept in her arms.

Beauty had been hers,
had slept in her arms;
had told her she loved her,
that she never would leave her,
and the tie that now bound them
left them freer than it found them...
Beauty had been hers once,
had slept in her arms.
