The Ocean Between Us, a poem for The Rift
Ocean arose out of my musings on what our beloveds were
going through during the time of the (d)Rift. Hearts are easily torn
apart, easily shattered. And healing can take a long, long time. I think
Gabrielle would have sat with her quill many a dark night writing her
soul onto her scrolls, hoping against hope for love's reuniting. I wrote
the following for her, since she is not here to share with us her
heart's longings. May their reunion be swift and eternal. (Originally

Ocean between us...a poem for The Rift
An ocean lies between us.
Not an ocean of water,
not the sea with its waves
crashing and roaring,
dashing ships and lives and dreams
upon lonely shores;
on desolate, empty shores.
An ocean lies between us.
Not an ocean of space,
not the heavens arching over us
where starfire burns,
and planets wander
along a lonely course;
a desolate, empty course.
An ocean lies between us.
Not an ocean of time,
not the passing of moments
that brings the cold
to once warm hearts,
now lonely as before;
desolate and empty as before.
Not an ocean of time nor space
nor of all the worlds' waters
has brought us here,
but the loss of two lives
-- your son, my daughter --
has led us here,
destroyed our lives,
and our hearts,
and our trust,
and destroyed us.
For an OCEAN of
LIES has come between us.
